Hot cutting

Depending on their characteristics, hot cutting machines can be used to cut textile straps, technical ribbons, Velcro®, insulating sleeves, cords, belts, plastic films, and various synthetic substrates. Compatibility depends notably on the material, width, thickness, and the behaviour of the material under the effect of heat.

During cutting, the heated blade slightly melts the synthetic fibres at the end of the material. These bond together and form a more stable edge. The resulting piece thus has a cleaner and more durable finish, without requiring additional operations to treat the ends.

Cold cutting uses a non-heated blade and is suitable for materials that naturally maintain a clean edge after cutting. Hot cutting simultaneously cuts and seals heat-sensitive materials. It is therefore recommended for textiles and synthetic substrates whose fibres are at risk of separating or fraying.

An angled cut forms a sloped end, which can facilitate the insertion of a strap or meet a specific assembly and finishing requirement. Automatic hot cutting machines generally allow for the adjustment of the length of the pieces and the quantity to be produced. Once the parameters are set, the machine unwinds the material, performs the cut, and repeats the cycle until the end of the series. Depending on the model, the blade temperature can also be adjusted to suit the material used.

The choice mainly depends on the material to be cut, its width, thickness, the length of the pieces, and the desired speed. It is also necessary to determine whether a straight or angled cut is required and to check the dimensions of the roll.
