From Passion to Entrepreneurship …
The story of DERFI begins in 1978 when Mr. Denis Schmalholtz decides to create his own company after working for 25 years in an industrial machine development company. Despite the apparent risks and obstacles, he feels the call of the entrepreneurial adventure and decides to embark on this new journey.

Beyond the risks:
Leaving his previous job, giving up the benefits and security of seniority, as well as family responsibilities, might suggest that it was an unconscious and risky ambition. However, Mr. Schmalholtz remains true to his principles of work, rigor, and perseverance, and he decides to embark on this journey despite the doubts and difficulties.
United in the adventure:
Mr. Schmalholtz is accompanied in this adventure by his wife, Monique. Together, they face challenges and obstacles, and their mutual support becomes their source of inspiration and motivation.
From Garage to Prosperity:
The company DERFI starts modestly in a garage, but quickly partners and potential clients become interested in its unique designs. The first official client is Peugeot, marking the official start of the business. Over the years, DERFI grows and faces an increasing workload.
DERFI Wrapping Machines at the Heart of the Industry:
DERFI moves in 1985 to Cormeilles-en-Parisis to expand. During these years, Mr. Schmalholtz dedicates his technical knowledge to the development of wrapping machines for electrical cable bundles, which become highly valued for their reliability and efficiency. DERFI wrapping machines play an important role in the aerospace, defence, and automotive industries.
Transmission and Expansion: DERFI writes a new chapter with its values intact.
After 38 years of development, Mr. and Mrs. Schmalholtz decided to pass the torch to the new generation while preserving the values of DERFI. The company returns to its roots by relocating its headquarters to Argenteuil and decides to expand its offering by supplying and transforming technical adhesives, thus providing a complete service to its clients.
DERFI, preferred partner of the Industry
DERFI prioritises human contact and personalised advice, allowing it to develop close relationships with its industrial clients. Thanks to its expertise as a design office and its commitment to service and innovation, DERFI gains recognition and attracts major names in the French and international industry.
Expansion and excellence: DERFI extends its influence to Lyon and Bordeaux
In 2020, DERFI opened a second location in Lyon and a sales office in Bordeaux, thus strengthening its presence in France. The company continues to grow and thrive, achieving its best turnover figures in 2021 and 2022. It continues to expand its reach and provide adhesive cutting solutions and label distribution to its clients, while remaining true to its core values of service, innovation, and close collaboration.
