Automotive masking rolls

A pre-adhesive automotive masking roll combines a protective film with an adhesive tape placed on one of its edges. It allows for fixing and deploying the protection in a single operation to quickly cover areas that should not receive paint, primer, dust, or splashes.

An automotive masking roll can be used during painting, sanding, preparation, masking, and finishing operations. It is particularly useful for protecting glass, seals, optics, body elements, and already painted surfaces before an intervention.

The choice depends on the surface to be protected, the required film width, the process temperature, and the application duration. It is also important to consider the desired precision, adhesion level, tape flexibility, ease of unrolling, and the desired removal quality.

Acrylic glue generally offers good resistance to aging, temperature variations, and certain outdoor conditions. Rubber glue often provides faster initial adhesion on many substrates. The choice depends on the surface, temperature, application duration, and the level of hold required.

A fine line tape allows for precise paint lines and clean separations between multiple areas or colours. Its fineness and flexibility facilitate following the curves and shapes of the bodywork. It is particularly suitable for bi-tone painting work and finishes requiring regular delimitation.

The thermal resistance must be suitable for the maximum temperature and the duration of the time in the booth or oven. A roll rated for 120 °C may be suitable for many common operations, while some processes require resistance to 160 or 180 °C. It is always necessary to check the temperature and exposure time indicated for each reference.

The surface must be clean, dry, and free of dust, grease, and residues. The adhesive edge should be applied with consistent pressure, without excessive stretching or creasing. It is also important to adhere to the recommended temperature and application time, and then to gradually remove the roll after the operation.
