Final assembly

A double-sided adhesive tape for permanent assembly is designed to create a permanent and durable bond between two surfaces. It allows for the attachment of components, panels, profiles, or decorative elements without visible fasteners. It is used in industry, signage, POS displays, fittings, automotive, and technical assembly.

A permanent double-sided adhesive tape is formulated to develop high adhesion and ensure lasting hold. Its removal can damage the tape, leave residues, or harm the surfaces. A removable double-sided tape, on the other hand, is designed to allow for easier disassembly or removal after temporary use.

The choice mainly depends on the materials to be bonded, their roughness, the weight of the elements, and the forces exerted on the bond. It is also important to consider temperature, humidity, vibrations, UV exposure, chemicals, and the available thickness. The structure of the tape must be suitable for the actual conditions of the assembly.

A thin double-sided tape is suitable for flat surfaces and assemblies requiring a low thickness. A PE or acrylic foam helps to better compensate for irregularities, level differences, and certain mechanical stresses. The choice therefore depends on the flatness of the materials, the desired finish, and the stresses applied to the fixing.

In certain applications, a high-performance double-sided adhesive tape can replace or complement screws, rivets, or other mechanical fixings. It avoids drilling, distributes the forces over a larger area, and allows for a more discreet finish. However, feasibility depends on the weight, the bonded surface, and the stresses experienced by the assembly.

Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, and residues. The tape should be applied without stretching, then pressed firmly and evenly over the entire bonding area. It is also important to respect the adhesion build-up time before subjecting the assembly to significant stresses.

It is recommended to conduct a test on the actual materials used and under conditions representative of production. The test should verify adhesion, mechanical strength, durability over time, and behaviour under environmental stresses.
